When God Doesn't Make Sense

Between February 2005-2007, members of the Colombian National Association of Evangelical Churches (CEDECOL) completed their distribution of 75,000 Spanish copies of Dr. Dobson’s book, When God Doesn’t Make Sense, to guerrilla insurgents, paramilitary rebels, army personnel and Christians impacted by Colombia’s 50-year civil war, resulting in many open hearts to Christ.

Focus on the Family Egypt

Under the direction of Sami Yacoub, Focus on the Family Egypt is committed to five major areas of ministry: pro-life protection, pastoral support, teen programs, a family resource center and a church-society-family advocacy program.

The organization, which opened its doors in November 2002, wants to protect pre-born children by providing crises pregnancy care; educating Christian leaders, young couples and teenagers; and encouraging a pro-life way of thinking in Egypt.

In a quest to reach those goals, Focus on the Family Egypt has published the First Nine Months pamphlet, which contains pictures of a pre-born child from conception to birth. The organization also held a seminar that presented a video, speech and testimonies from people who left the abortion practice to more than 130 attendees. To help educate Christian leaders, Focus on the Family Egypt offered a counseling course about dealing with crisis pregnancy.

The pastoral support ministry is just as packed with activity. Focus on the Family Egypt has published a brochure on caring for pastors’ families, published Arabic translations of Refresh, Renew, Revive and Married to a Pastor and held a conference for pastors, ministers and their families, which garnered 100 attendees in the summer of 2001. The pastor's support ministry's goal is to encourage and comfort pastors and their families.

Focus on the Family Egypt’s teen programs have also had their share of success in reaching their intended audiences. A youth leader seminar called Common Ground, for example, brought in an audience of 200 youth leaders, family meeting leaders and pastors from churches throughout Cairo.

The seminar, held in March 2002, marked the launch of Focus on the Family Egypt’s teen programs, which are intent on reaching Egyptian teens with absolute truths. The programs cover areas such as healthy relationships and sexuality and abstinence. The organization believes that a biblically-based awareness will provide Egyptian teens with direction as they grow to become the nation’s leaders.

Focus on the Family Egypt also aspires to translate Adventures in Odyssey books into Arabic. An Egyptian national who graduated from Focus on the Family Institute is guiding the development of Egypt’s youth outreach ministry.
