When God Doesn't Make Sense

Between February 2005-2007, members of the Colombian National Association of Evangelical Churches (CEDECOL) completed their distribution of 75,000 Spanish copies of Dr. Dobson’s book, When God Doesn’t Make Sense, to guerrilla insurgents, paramilitary rebels, army personnel and Christians impacted by Colombia’s 50-year civil war, resulting in many open hearts to Christ.

Focus on the Family Canada

In February, 2006, Focus on the Family Canada officially opened the Institute of Marriage and Family Canada (IMFC). Located in Ottawa within blocks of Parliament, the IMFC is a think tank devoted to producing credible research which promotes and supports the well-being of marriage and the family.

Focus on the Family Singapore

A high incidence of abortions. An increasing rate of broken marriages. A couple generations of children who were raised by maids. The abundance of Internet pornography. The social plagues are plenty of reasons for Focus on the Family to provide a counter message through an associate office in Singapore.

Focus on the Family Singapore was established in 2002 and has a staff of 13. They use family education (No Apologies, Connect2), Focus on the Family resources, seminars and events to reach families in Singapore. They have been able to place well-researched family life content on local TV, radio, in the newspapers, magazines and on the web. To date, they have an estimated reach of some 900,000 constituents and their mass media messages are reinforced during the year with more than 200 family events, seminars, workshops and talks, plus distribution of approximately 30,000 books, magazines, VCDs, CDs and booklets thru family service centers, schools, libraries, bookstores and churches.

Much of the family education is provided through radio programs featuring Dr. James Dobson. Dr. Dobson’s 90-second commentary is aired five times a day on NewRadio FM 93.8, a national secular station that caters to professionals and businessmen. And a one-hour program is hosted weekly on the same radio station.

The success of the radio programming has opened some opportunities in television, as Focus on the Family Singapore is gearing up to launch spot telecasts on National TV Channel “I” in May 2002. The organization is also working toward placing the 90-second commentary on TV by the end of the year.

Focus on the Family Singapore’s second area of ministry, the distribution of resources, is handled by Armour Publishing, which serves as the exclusive reseller in Singapore. Armour Publishing has established a network of about 20 retail outlets, secular and Christian.

Those resources are also distributed at Focus on the Family Singapore seminars and events, which cover subjects such as parenting, marriage enrichment, father and child bonding and pastors. So far, the events have been held for churches and other community gatherings.

However, new opportunities are in the making for the events area of the Focus on the Family Singapore ministry. One of those opportunities is the Focus on the Family No Apologies program, which is designed to encourage teens to practice abstinence only. About 30 Singapore facilitators and 16 regional facilitators have been trained to implement the program on a national scale.

Other future projects for the office include launching a Mandarin version of No Apologies, setting up a referral system for professional counseling and developing friendships with individuals and corporations who desire to partner with Focus on the Family Singapore.
