When God Doesn't Make Sense

Between February 2005-2007, members of the Colombian National Association of Evangelical Churches (CEDECOL) completed their distribution of 75,000 Spanish copies of Dr. Dobson’s book, When God Doesn’t Make Sense, to guerrilla insurgents, paramilitary rebels, army personnel and Christians impacted by Colombia’s 50-year civil war, resulting in many open hearts to Christ.

Focus on the Family New Zealand

Divorce occurs half as often as marriage each year. Family violence affects one in seven families. And teens account for 20 percent of induced abortions. New Zealand needs the family message and Focus on the Family New Zealand is trying to be the vehicle.

Focus on the Family New Zealand was opened in 1999 in Auckland. Serving family needs has involved mailing a quarterly newsletter, producing a daily radio program, and setting up church resource stands. They also provide radio broadcasts and have book, video & DVD resources going into the community as well. They offer Heritage Builders, DPYK and Church Family Representative programs. The church representative program works with church attendees, pastors and churches to deliver the family message to their congregations. Further, they are involved in secondary schools by providing materials on Intelligent Design.

The quarterly newsletter is designed for and distributed to Christian parents, married church attendees, children of Christian homes, Christian singles and single parents. Each of the audience groups can find information and help on marital breakdown, divorce, raising teens and relational confusion in the newsletter that reaches their homes four times a year.

Inside the newsletter, constituents can also find information on radio broadcasts, which hit the New Zealand airwaves with a family message through Radio Rhema, a national Christian radio station, each day. Each broadcast provides counsel and practical help for the various needs of parents. For the kids, Focus on the Family New Zealand also provides Adventures in Odyssey and Radio Theatre for national radio stations in the country.

The radio broadcasts and newsletter are promoted through Focus on the Family New Zealand's church family representative program, which uses church attendees, pastors and churches to deliver the family message to their congregations. The goal of the church family representative program, which has recruited about 59 representatives to date, is to provide useful "bite-size" tips on marriage and parenting for the representatives to present at their church services, and to increase awareness of the best resources on key subjects. Focus on the Family New Zealand hopes the effort will provide families with the inspiration, tools and resources they need to change and improve their situations.

Another way Focus on the Family New Zealand has attempted to get the family message to church congregations is through its church resource stands. The stands are designed to pique the interest of any demographic older than 18 by displaying resources related to relationship and family issues.
