When God Doesn't Make Sense

Between February 2005-2007, members of the Colombian National Association of Evangelical Churches (CEDECOL) completed their distribution of 75,000 Spanish copies of Dr. Dobson’s book, When God Doesn’t Make Sense, to guerrilla insurgents, paramilitary rebels, army personnel and Christians impacted by Colombia’s 50-year civil war, resulting in many open hearts to Christ.

Focus on the Family Canada

In February, 2006, Focus on the Family Canada officially opened the Institute of Marriage and Family Canada (IMFC). Located in Ottawa within blocks of Parliament, the IMFC is a think tank devoted to producing credible research which promotes and supports the well-being of marriage and the family.

Focus on the Family Malaysia

Focus on the Family Malaysia was established in 1998 and has a staff of 18 located in Kuala Lumpur. They offer a variety of programs to raise public awareness on family issues through mass media and corporations. They also provide counseling services; hold seminars and workshops; family camps; offer quality resources including books, videos and audiotapes; have a radio presence that reaches 3 million.

The office, led by executive director Lee Wee Min, recognizes the eternal value of the family as the basic functional unit of society with meaningful roles, rights and responsibilities.

Since 1998, Focus on the Family Malaysia has helped create an awareness of the importance of the family through various venues, including Dr. James Dobson's 90-second commentary, and in more than 300 supermarkets and 300 KFC outlets throughout the country. The largest English newspaper, The Star, also publishes Dr. Dobson's articles every two weeks.

Focus on the Family Malaysia has launched various campaigns on bonding between parents and children and husbands and wives. The campaigns are reinforced with the availability of seminars, conferences and workshops that are regularly organized in the areas of parenting, marriage preparation enrichment, women and men conferences and counseling courses.Further, they have reached more than 17,000 young people with the No Apologies program and have recorded a pledge rate to remain abstinent until marriage of 93%.

On the political front, Focus on the Family Malaysia is working closely with the government of Malaysia under the Ministry of Women and Family Development. The area of involvement includes the drafting of family policies, planning of a national family day and special events, developing programs and campaigns to strengthen families and translating resources into Malay.

Focus on the Family Malaysia, however, doesn't stop at just helping families at home. It has also created a workplace program to challenge businesses to focus on the well-being of their employees' families.

The programs, campaigns, seminars and conferences are accompanied with resources such as books, videos, VCDs, cassettes, periodicals, booklets and magazines that continually help familes after the events are completed. Those resources are also available through Christian and secular bookstores around the country.

Because of its success in disseminating the pro-family message, the office had to develop a counseling referral network, which includes about 60 members, to support the large number of constituents who call or write to the organization.

Focus on the Family Malaysia also conducts surveys on issues pertaining to family life to help it develop programs, campaigns and training programs that will meet the needs of the people. A survey on marriage trends indicated that people who rated their marriage on a high satisfactory level are also those who had attended some form of pre-marital classes. This led Focus on the Family Malaysia to conduct marriage preparation workshops on a regular basis to help more couples.
